Dear Ulrike, my name is Olga, I live in Moscow, Russia. I am the owner of one of your family dog's littermate, Tina Trading Vaspurakan. My dog's name is Tina Trading Vero Gianni Schicchi (at home, he is called "simply" Gianni Schicchi, which is the name of one of my favourite opera characters, of Puccini). I am very interested in learning more about Vaspurakan's life. I was trying to find photos on your site, but found only very first photos from the time he came to Vienna with his grandfather Boston and TT Kuffrey. How is Vas doing now? Does he go to shows? Does he have any other "hobbies" - for example, obedience, hunting, coursing, agility, rescue work or anything else? Vas' brother Gianni goes to some shows - not very often though, but he attended about 30 shows, and always with Excellent mark. This included the largest show in Russia, called "EURASIA" which is a CACIB taking place in February every year, in Moscow. Shicchi was the Best Puppy of breed in 2006, followed by another littermate of Vas', Tina Trading William (as you may know, V and W are one letter in Russian). In the same show, the litter father, Tina Trading Nelson, was BOB/CACIB and Best in Group; later in 2006, he was BOB in Poznan' and became the World Winner - the first Ridgeback bred in Russia who got this title in the history! As you may have heard, Nelson moved to the USA in April 2007. In February 2007, Schicchi got the Best Male of breed (BOS) after winning the Intermediate class, and received a CACIB and Cruft's qualification at "EURASIA" - this was a tribute to his father Nelson who got a CACIB in this very large show one year earlier. Schcchi also attended 4 Club shows and won in his class 3 times, including a CW under Jan Coppens, a very well-known Ridgeback breeder and judge from the Netherlands. (Unfortunately, Schicchi did not behave too well one time at a club show, and was only 3rd in his class, but got a CC and excellent description from a South-African judge.) We also go to hunting training quite often: Schicchi has received 6 field trial certificates. in June 2007, he was awarded a Golden medal from Russia's largest hunting show which takes place every... 5 years. In this show, not only the exterior is assessed, but also the dog's field trials results, and hunting certificates (if any) of his ancestors. Schicchi was 1st in his age group (intermediate, 2-3 years), by both exterior assessment and field trial points. Schicchi was also selected into a team of 4 Ridgebacks to participate in a multi-breed hunting contest which takes place once a year in Moscow region. The team also included one son of Boston's and a Ridgeback imported from Maxwood, South Africa, and... Vas' and Schicchi's great-grand-mother Santa Barbara, who is almost 10 years old but does great in all kinds of fieldwork - she is so far the most successful hunting Ridgeback in Russia! The contest included 2 separate competitions. The 4 Ridgebacks did very well, and in one of 2 competitions our team was 2nd (of 12 teams!! including traditional hunting breeds like Jagdterriers, Russian Laïkas, Dachshunds, Kurzhaars and Drahthaars); when the total points were calculated for 2 competitions, the Ridgebacks were 5th of the 12 teams! The result was remarkable because in Russia Ridgebacks' hunting work and field trials have been practiced only for about 5-6 years. And the use of traditional European hunting breeds in Russia goes back to 50 years and more, and Laïkas' hunting history has been lasting for several... centuries!! We also went to obedience classes last year. There, we met another littermate of Vas' and Schicchi, Tina Trading Vumba - he is very fond of obedience work and participated in several obedience competitions. Vumba also goes to protection dogs' classes. Schicchi did not proceed to protection training (I am not sure I want that...) but he is a very obedient dog by character, always attentive to his master. This makes him an ideal company dog in the city, but I would wish he were a bit more independent in hunting training where dogs are required to work at a certain distance from the master without going back and checking 'did I do o'kay?' Schicchi always wants to check if I am following him, if I am not lost too far behind - this is very touching, of course, but I want more independence from him on the field. He has lots of energy and interest, but he also wants his master to 'come and look' how he works. Well, this is about TT Vero Gianni Schicchi, Vaspurakan's litter-brother. I also know about another littermate, Tina Trading Wrangler: he did great in a number of shows, and even travelled to other countries for shows. Just today, I found some excellent news (Internet is a great thing, isn't it?) I have finally found Vas' and Gianni's littermate sister, Tina Trading Venezia. She was the only female in the litter and stayed in Ukraine with her mother TT Beisiz when the 'boys' moved to Russia. Venezia still lives in Ukraine and goes to shows, with remarkable success! I can send you photographs of Vaspurakan's littermates so that you could see how these 'boys' and the young lady have grown! Also, I have recently learned that yet another littermate, Tina Trading Washington, has moved from Moscow to... Cyprus! Unfortunately, I do not have his protographs yet, but I head he is going to attend the WorldDogShow in Sweden this summer. Please tell us more about Vaspurakan, his life, character and hobbies. I am sure he is a kind loving and intellectual dog, like his littermates! Photos, we want more photos of Vas' :-) !! With warmest regards, Olga, Vero Gianni Schicchi |
